48 Hours of Flavor: A Lancaster City Restaurant Week Itinerary

Lancaster City Restaurant Week is one of my favorite weeks of the year! As someone who is always looking for an excuse to eat out and not have to cook, LCRW is the perfect time to try a new spot I’ve had on my list or go back to a tried and true favorite.

While you truly can’t go wrong with any of the participating restaurants, here are some of my personal favorites that I’d recommend if you had 2 days in Lancaster City and wanted to try a little bit of everything.

A breakfast crepe at Rachel’s Cafe & Creperie

Day 1

Breakfast

Rachel’s Cafe & Creperie

Rachel’s is one of my top places to bring first-time visitors – the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the food is always superb. They are open for breakfast, brunch, and lunch and offer savory and sweet options.

I am a big breakfast fan and love a mix of savory and sweet, so my go-to order is the French Toast Crepe. Cinnamon infused batter, egg, a protein, and cheese with a side of syrup and sprinkled in powdered sugar. Wash it down with a vanilla chai latte or a nutella hot chocolate, and you are set. They also have a great selection of specialty crepes just for LCRW!

Pro-Tip: You can join the waitlist online & be notified when your table is ready. Weekends can get busy, so I recommend doing this to get ahead of the rush.

A chicken sandwich from Amanita

Lunch

Amanita

Located just a few steps from Rachel’s is Amanita, a farm-to-table cafe that uses basic, whole foods in all of their dishes. The atmosphere is amazing with natural light, lots of plants, and a mural created by local artists.

My favorite lunch item is the Joyce Chicken Sandwich with juicy grilled chicken and a flavorful garlic aioli. For Restaurant Week, they are offering a Falafel Scotch Egg – crispy falafel with jammy egg served over a bed of baba ganoush and a fresh herb salad – which I’ll definitely be stopping in to try.

Seeing the creative menu items that restaurants come up with is my favorite part of Restaurant Week. You can always find something special to try that you haven’t experienced before.

Dinner

Himalayan Curry & Grill

When I’m craving warm, cozy, flavorful comfort food I immediately go to Himalayan Curry & Grill! Sit in their intimate dining room (definitely make a reservation!) and enjoy amazing traditional Nepalese and Indian dishes.

For Lancaster City Restaurant Week, you can enjoy a $30 dinner special including an appetizer, entree, and dessert. My usual order that you can enjoy as a part of the combo is Cauliflower Manchurian, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Rice Pudding. Don’t forget the garlic naan bread!

My family regularly orders the Chicken Tikka Masala for special occasions. With delicious spices and perfectly cooked chicken, I find myself craving it all the time.

Cinnie Waffle Sandwiches at Savoy Truffle

Day 2

Breakfast

Savoy Truffle

Savoy Truffle serves up unique breakfast and lunch items that you don’t want to miss! Grab a coffee next door at Mean Cup, and then get ready to experience some truly amazing food.

I recently tried their Pancake Tacos for the first time, and my life was genuinely changed. Sweet, fluffy pancakes act as the “shell”, filled with crumbled sausage, egg, cheese, and brown sugar black pepper bacon. The tacos are huge, and I had enough to bring home and eat later in the day.

As a savory & sweet combo lover, Savoy Truffle’s Restaurant Week special is calling my name – Cinnie Waffle Sandwiches. Egg, cheese, and bacon stacked between two cinnamon waffles.

Lunch

Cabbage Hill Schnitzel Haus

Maybe it’s because my family is from Western PA (or just because they are a perfect food) but I love a good pierogi. Cabbage Hill Schnitzel Haus, located in Southern Market, serves them up perfectly with sour cream and sauteed onions, along with a variety of other German staples.

For LCRW, you can try a sampler of their best selling items for $30. A choice of 2 Würste or Pork Schnitzel, 3 Pierogies or a Soft Pretzel, and a dessert. If you haven’t tried Cabbage Hill Schnitzel Haus yet, this is the perfect time to sample a bit of everything.

Pro-Tip: Check out some of the other participating restaurants at Southern Market, and get a global experience all in one food hall!

Belvedere Inn is a local and regional favorite

Dinner

Belvedere Inn

Any time I want a nicer dinner out or a drink in a classy yet cozy environment, the Belvedere is my go-to. Sit at the bar or reserve a table on the first floor, or head upstairs to the jazz bar and hear live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Their LCRW Special (a $65 Three Course Dinner) features some of my favorite menu items that never miss. First, choose from 4 starters. I love the Steamed Mussels, but I’ve also had the other 3 dishes and enjoyed them all. Next, choose an entree from 4 delicious options. My personal favorite is the Chicken Piccata, perfectly cooked with a delicious lemon flavor.

I consider myself a dessert-pro, and every sweet treat I’ve had at the Belvedere has been the perfect ending to a great meal. You can’t go wrong with whatever is on the menu for that night.

Enjoy cocktails and mocktails at a variety of spots to pair with your food favorite

Hopefully you are hungry and ready to make your plan for Lancaster City Restaurant Week … I know I am! You truly cannot go wrong with any of the participating restaurants. It’s what makes Lancaster City so special – there is something for everyone! From classic Indian, to American staples, to European comfort dishes, and so much more.

Happy Lancaster City Restaurant Week!
