Enjoy A Meal From Middle Earth at Shot & Bottle

By Tony Gorick

As a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I had to try part of Shot & Bottle’s J. R. R. Tolkien-inspired “A Meal Through Middle Earth” Lancaster City Restaurant Week special!

Shot & Bottle is located right on Penn Square (at 2 N Queen St) and boasts a large selection of Pennsylvania's finest spirits, exceptional craft beer on tap, and wines curated to compliment their creative, and delicious, food menu.

The team created an array of tantalizing options to try, all inspired by the Lord Of The Rings. All of the themed food items are available exclusively during dinner hours (starting at 5pm).

The special (and fantastical) menu features:

LEMBAS BREAD (complimentary with purchase of another item)

Thin parsley and chili bread served with honey butter

ARAGORN’S RANGER STEW - $8

Beef & bean stew served with grilled lembas bread

PRANCING PONY CHARCUTERIE - $24

Assortment of meats, cheeses, pickled vegetables, and strawberries

GOLLUM’S CAVE MUSSELS - $20

Kale & cilantro chimichurri, wild mushrooms, grilled lembas bread

SHIRE CROP TOAST - $14

Wild mushrooms, kale, shallot, thyme, brie, and port reduction on Thom’s sourdough

DEAGOL’S LAST MEAL - $24

Beer battered cod, yukon wedges, house tartar, mushy peas, lemon wedge

DENETHOR’S FEAST - $28

Roasted chicken thigh & leg, parsnips, roasted cherry tomato on the vine, barley, lemon thyme, white wine sauce

I felt like the tenth member of the Fellowship as I carefully selected what to get!

I decided on the Lembas Bread, Prancing Pony Charcuterie, and Shire Crop Toast (though I will most definitely be going back to get Deagol’s Last Meal later this week!).

Not only were the flavors delicious, the way the food was presented really transported the experience to Middle Earth vibes. From the wooden boards to the garden feel, it felt like I was having a grand picnic in the Shire.

The Lembas bread was delicious, especially with the honey butter. As someone who loves mushrooms, I couldn’t pass up the Shire Crop Toast—and it definitely didn’t disappoint (the port reduction really brought all of the fantastic flavors together).

The charcuterie board was a fun touch (especially as a fan of the Prancing Pony locale) and the mix of items proved to be a great balance of snackable treats.

You can tell a lot of thought went into curating a fun experience for Lord Of The Rings fans (or just fans of delicious food!). I can’t wait to go back before Restaurant Week ends to try a few more of these themed culinary creations.

Shot & Bottle is open Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday/Saturday 9am-12am, Sunday 9am-3pm, and closed on Mondays.

Grab a few friends and go on a magical journey through Middle Earth while supporting a great local restaurant!
